Prefold Cloth Diaper Covers

February 16th, 2010 admin No comments

If you’re interested in prefold cloth diapers, one thing you should definitely be aware of is the concept of a diaper cover. A diaper cover is exactly what it sounds like. It quite literally is a waterproof cover for your cloth diaper. What this does is help to make sure that there are no leaks or spills or other kind of messes. After all, preventing leaks is the whole point of a diaper right?

There is a great amount of variety in the different kind of diaper covers that people use. Most of these diaper covers break down into a couple different styles. First, these diaper covers are usually waterproof, but unfortunately not all are. Second, some diaper covers are designed to be one-size-fits-all and other diaper covers are designed for specific sizes.

It seems like the waterproof diapers are definitely the way to go. If you’re looking for the maximum and leak protection. I’ve looked at some styles diaper covers or cloth diaper and systems that were kind of strange. They had a cloth outer layer, along with a cloth insert. They made it sound like the outer layer could be reused. Yet for the life of me. I couldn’t see how the outer layer was going to be kept dry, since it was also made of cloth. After spending some time doing my research I found that other people had the same problem. The reality was that these cloth diaper covers ended up smelling pretty unpleasant. That meant that you would have to wash the diaper cover and insert, which kind of defeats the whole purpose of a diaper cover.

Save yourself the headache and just go ahead and get a diaper cover those waterproof. Now, if your child has a really nasty mess. You might still want to go ahead and clean up the diaper cover, but that should be a lot less effort than having to wash the diaper every time your baby uses it. If you want to go that route, you might as well get an all-in-one solution like the bumGenius cloth diapers. That kind of diaper, you just end up throwing in the wash each time your baby uses it.

The second big area of the park your for many different kinds of diaper covers is whether or not they are one size fits all. Or come in different sizes. Obviously a one-size-fits-all kind of diaper would be much better, cost wise than a single sized diaper. Spending money only one time to buy a diaper cover. Instead of, each time your baby decides to grow, which by the way is a lot, saves a lot of money.

Ironically, both the all-in-one sized diapers and the single sized diapers cost about at the same per cover. So, if you end up having to buy four different sizes of diaper covers . As your child grows, you might end up spending three or four times as much money just on diaper covers. If you can get away with using a system like the flip diaper, you’ll save yourself a lot of hassle. After all, who wants to go ahead and go through the trouble of rebuying diaper covers. Each time your child gets too big or outgrows its current diaper covers. What a hassle.

If you’re going to use prefold cloth diapers at all, we very much suggest you find a good cloth diaper cover. Actually, I think it’s probably a good idea to end up with about a half dozen or so of them. That way, if you go ahead and pre-load them with inserts and so on. Your child will always have a fresh diaper ready whenever you need to change them. If you’ve ever tried to change a screaming baby, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about.
